Pinedo rescues point in Seville

Athletic Club show fight to equalise straight after conceding a goal in the 90th minute

Athletic Club Women and Sevilla FC drew 1-1 with two stoppage-time goals each at the Jesús Navas Stadium. Jessica Martínez put the hosts ahead in the 90th minute before Clara Pinedo salvaged a point for the Lionesses two minutes later. In an action-packed second half Mariasun Quiñones also saved a penalty.

Athletic Club controlled possession in the first half. However Iraia Iturregi's side lacked aggression in attack and only had a couple of chances to score.

Up until the half-hour mark, Sevilla had hardly troubled Quiñones, a long-range effort by Gabarro the only time they threatened.

Sevilla had the best chance after the restart. In the 46th minute, Toni Payne got a head to a cross from the left but Quiñones kept it out.

In the 71st minute, Payne had another chance, forcing the Athletic goalkeeper into a point-blank save at the near post. Gabarro then went close to connecting with a good cross, while Payne was yet again denied by Quiñones.

With ten minutes to go, the referee pointed to the penalty spot after a Sevilla player was brought down in the box. Gabarro stood up but Quiñones made a superb save to keep the scores even.

Athletic were still alive. However, in the 90th minute Jessica Martínez beat Quiñones with a long-range shot. Fortunately, Clara Pinedo was able to rescue a point in stoppage time.

Ortega linked up with Peke, who played in Pinedo, the striker making no mistake as she put the ball in the back of the net right on the final whistle. The Bilbao-born forward is now on three goals so far this season, just behind Jone Amezaga as Athletic's top scorer.
