This afternoon, Athletic Club has received , via fax, the case judge’s document of charges and sanction proposal which closes the preliminary investigation.

The aforementioned decision comes after several petitions by Carlos Gurpegi to undergo further testing were denied, last Friday. Curiously enough, the case has been closed before the expiration deadline for lodging a denial of proof appeal.

We find, totally incomprehensible, the refusal to investigate naturally-induced production of 19-norandrosterone. As we feel this will not only affect the current case, but also the player’s future itself, leaving him exposed to new controls and presumed risks.

In Athletic Club’s judgement, the investigation criteria and search for the truth have not been pursued. On the contrary, we get the impression that the case has been prejudged. Athletic will make all appropriate allegations within the allowed ten-day period.
