Doroteo Elorriaga Uriarte passed away in Barrika yesterday, 25 October. Doro was an Athletic Club player in the 1930’s.
Doro, who was from Sestao, was a member of the Red-White team during the 1934-35 and 1935-36 season.
He joined the club when he was 18 years old. However, his youth coupled with the fact that he had to compete with other players for a position in the team meant that he only played in one official match. The match in question was against Valencia and was played in Mestalla on 15 March 1936. In this match the rojiblancos had lined up Gorostiza, Doro Elorriaga, Bata, Garate and Elices in attack with the result being a (1-1) draw, which was all that the Red-Whites needed in order to conquer the 1935-36 league championship.
After the war, he continued his football career by playing for Zaragoza, and afterwards he played with the Barakaldo team for a total of eight seasons until his retirement in 1950.
His funeral will be held tomorrow, 27 at 18:00 at the Nursing Home in Barrika. Rest in peace.
