Juan Ignacio Onaindia has left us. Former rojiblanco board member during the Pedro Aurtenetxe and José María Arrate mandates, passed away on Sunday, 6 August, in his home in Gernika at the age of 66, as a result of a heart attack. Most recently, since Fernando Lamikiz became President of the red-white organization, Juan Ignacio Onaindia had again retaken his previous job as delegate for the Bilbao subsidiary team, to which he dedicated himself as he had done during his previous stages in the Club.
Onaindia, who accompanied the cubs for the last time this past Saturday at the pre-season match played in Amorebieta, was a member of the Board that Pedro Aurtenetxe presided for 8 years and another 7 years on the one headed by Jose Maria Arrate.
During last season he coincided at Bilbao Athletic with the current Premier team Manager, Félix Sarriugarte, who deeply affected by the news has dedicated the Athletic Club – Rot-Weiss victory to “a very dear and close friend to all; a man who was 100 per cent Athletic Club”, pointed out Sarriugarte at the end of the match.
Funeral services for Juan Ignacio Onaindia will be held today at 19:00 hours at Santa Maria Church in Gernika.
The red-and-white family would like to express their most sincere condolences and solidarity to his family, friends, and relatives.
Rest in Peace, Juan Ignacio Onaindia.
