Athletic Club and the Athletic Club Foundation, in fulfilment of their corporative social responsibility policy, have decided to sign up to WWF’s ‘Earth Hour 2009’ initiative. For that reason, next Saturday, 28 March, the lights at Ibaigane Palace, Athletic Club and the Foundation’s Headquarters, will be switched off from 20:30 to 21:30, as a show of support and with the intention of making citizens aware of the common problem of the global warming and climate change.

This initiative by WWF is the largest campaign ever in the defence of the environment, in which a billion have already signed up. Earth Hour 2009 will involve city governments, citizens and businesses in a joint operation to call attention to the effects of global warming and demand that political leaders take urgent action against CO2 emissions. Until now, more than 2,750 cities from 84 countries have committed themselves to switching off the lights of their most iconic buildings, as a show of support for Earth Hour.

In conclusion, Athletic Club and the Foundation, would like to encourage their followers to join this symbolic gesture, as well as become aware of a problem that equally affects us all.
