Athletic Club’s Physical Trainer Javier Reyes gave details in an interview about the foreseen development of this part of the pre-season campaign at Isla Canela, about the aim of the designed work sessions and about the changes that the official matches in July and in August have introduced compared to those of previous years.
“Before coming to Isla Canela we have had a period of information gathering in which we have tested the team’s level: their levels of aerobic power, the percentage of fat in their body, a muscular balance, how much they weigh… And with that information, we have established certain groups to individualize the exercises to be done, which are basically the same, but with different rhythms and intensities in each case. We want top optimisation.”
The man from Granada is satisfied with the team’s physical conditions after the summer holidays. ” The 30th of July is the deadline on which we have designed each exercise and training session. Before the holidays we explained the importance of their physical state when returning on the 6th of July to the players, because if not, we would have wasted time that evidently we don’t have. And I have checked that the players have done their duty.”
Reyes tells us that ” the calendar we have in August means that this 2009-2010 season Athletic has one more month of competition. That’s why we are now doing a series of exercises which are usually done further on. That’s the biggest difference regarding other pre-season periods, our aim is to be fitter earlier in the season.”
