Athletic wins the sixth edition of the Christmas Championship

Athletic Club played their first match of the VI Women’s Football Christmas Championship in Aretxabaleta against a team comprised of players from Debagoiena. The match ended with victory on behalf of Debagoiena by 1-0. Their second encounter was against Real Sociedad. The Red-White starting eleven line up was: Ainhoa, Itsaso, Marta M., Nekane, Tzibi, Iraia, Manu, Gangoiti, Paula, Ibarra and Patri. Athletic Club beat the team from Donostia 2-nil. The goals being scored by Ibarra, in the 7th minute, and Manu, in the 24th.

Afterwards, Athletic Club took on Eibar. The Red-White starting line up was: Ane Landa, Itsaso, Tzibi, Iraia, Paula, Patri, Gangoiti, Beristain, Guru, Manu and Ibarra. Despite the team from Eibar getting ahead on the scoreboard in the 1st minute, the two goals scored by Manu, in the 5th and 10th minute allowed the Red-Whites to be victorious and they even came close to increasing their lead in the 12th minute, when Itsaso took a free kick, however, the ball struck the post.

In the fourth match, Real Sociedad defeated Debagoiena by 1-0; and in the fifth, Real and Eibar reached a nil-all draw.

Prior to the final, the last Athletic Club encounter was against Debagoiena. The Red-White line up: Ane Landa, Itsaso, Marta M., Beristain, Patri, Gangoiti, Saioa, Paula, Gunu, Manu and I.Murua. The Red-Whites won by 8-0, goals: Murua (min.3), Murua (min. 9), Patri (min. 12), Manu (min. 14), Manu (min. 17), Itsaso (min. 19), Murua (min. 20) and Guru (min. 23).

The final.

Athletic Club disputed the final against Real Sociedad with the following line up: Ainhoa; Iraia, Tzibi, Marta M, Saioa, Beristain, Itsaso, Guru, Ibarra, Nekane and I.Murua. Athletic Club won by 1-0, the goal was scored by Itsaso in the dying stages of the match, upon making the most of Eli Ibarra’s pass from the left wing.
