The agreement will come to fruition as of the 2012-13 season
The agreement includes broadcasting rights for Canal+ for the encounters to be played by our club in League and Copa during the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. Resulting in a new model between the club and television operator that is based on mutual growth.
Prisa TV and Athletic Club have signed an agreement resulting in Digital + acquiring the club’s broadcasting rights for the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. The agreement includes Athletic League and Copa encounters.
The main objective of this collaborative agreement between Digital + and Athletic is to explore and develop a model of mutual growth to the max. Therefore, Canal + and Athletic Club will be working together in order to grow and open doors in the Pay TV market, and also to boost the Club’s image.
Pedro García Guillén, Managing Director at Prisa TV, wanted to emphasize that “with this agreement, we would like to continue working so as to build a stable setting in Spanish football and contribute to the clubs’ solid model of finance. In this sense, Athletic has understood from the beginning that we want to work together with them in order to modernize and exploit better their television rights”.
In turn, Athletic Club, as a result of this collaboration, boosts the exploitation of the professional football audio-visual rights in the market, which will contribute to the creation of value for the clubs, its fans and the audio-visual operators. Regarding this, the president of Athletic Club’s Administrative Committee, Fernando García Macua, pointed out that “the agreement is fully satisfactory for the Club in both qualitative and quantitative aspects. It’s another step towards complying with our strategic goal of growing on solid ground in all fields and of consolidating Athletic structurally in the position that it deserves as one of the most important clubs in football, and that, in addition, means a new concept in the relationship between the club and operator, based on mutual effort in order to improve the results of all parties.”
