At the beginning of the press conference and before answering the questions asked by the journalists, the president, Josu Urrutia, has communicated two outstanding news. The first is that he will not run for a third term, and the second is that next elections will be held on Thursday December 27th.

“There is no ideal date, Club´s interests must be above all”, and, once he had mentioned “the principles of honesty, prudence and responsibility” that have underpinned the decision, the president has announced that they will follow the statutory processes established for the new elections to be held on the date indicated.

In addition, the President showed his gratitude to the Board when the matter of his replacement has come to discussion. “It is been a week since I gave them my final decision, they will be in a period of reflection as well. “It is a matter that they will have to decide freely,” he added.

Asked about his continuity in office until the date of the elections, Josu Urrutia said he would continue to perform his role, and “act naturally, taking good decisions based on common sense, leaving for the next candidate those issues we are not sure at how to proceed”.

The sporting situation of Athletic has not been decisive on the choice of election date. With regard to the current sporting situation of the team, Urrutia has reiterated, “In eight years there good and bad times” a leaders matter is “not going crazy when things are doing very good and when they are bad to go with a mentality of always improving situations.”

“We must tighten more, stay more together and seek for improving individual performance” and recalled “this is something that has happened in football many times and we have to be clear in the possibilities we have and go for it.”
