Death: Jose Mari Barrenetxea

The ex-player Jose Mari Barrenetxea (Bilbao, 17-08-1942 / 20-02-2019) has died. A goalkeeper known as “Txopo”, he was part of the first squad in the 1963/64 and 1964/65 seasons as substitute goalkeeper. When Iribar and Zamora were injured, he was called up several times, for example, in the European qualifying round against Dunfermline.

Before joining Athletic, he defended the colours of Firestone – youth champions – Peña, Indautxu, Izarra, Arenas and Basconia. He then played for Villosa. Rest in peace.
