Athletic club, in view of the new situation generated by the proposed competition model approved yesterday by the Board of Directors of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, wishes to state the following:
1. Athletic Club is present in the women’s football committee of the RFEF and participated in the making of this decision represented by its president, Aitor Elizegi.
2. Athletic Club, has always shown its sensitivity and dedicated all its means to advance women’s football in the way it deserves, is open to improve the competition in any way possible. We put in value the bet of Athletic for a football with values, sustainable, responsible and local. Even more when it comes to women’s sport and football.
3. We will support in the Feminine, as we do in the Masculine, to the clubs and competitions that make their defense and promotion of the football academy and that put in value local women who decide, within the philosophy of our project, to live like sportswomen of high level, with a firm bet for the professionalization of the players with talent and capacity.
4. Athletic Club, due to its social involvement, infrastructure and leadership in sports titles, deserves to be at the forefront of the project towards which women’s football is heading. It is enough to see the last opening of San Mamés in the Cup match against Atlético de Madrid, with 48,121 spectators, the second most attended match in history. The future must be based on structures that reward work on the base that the Club has been doing for several seasons, including collaborations with agreed entities.
