The celebration of International Women’s Day will mark the agenda of events planned by the Athletic Club for this 8th March, a day in which we also join the recognition of all women who make up our entity. In the preview of the meeting before the RCD Espanyol, it is planned to launch a spectacular mosaic made for all the Tribunes of San Mamés.

45.000 purple cards will be distributed in all the localities to show them to the exit of the soccer players to the field when the anthem sounds and every time that our players mark a goal. The lilac dot, symbol of the rejection of violence against women, will also be shown on the video scoreboard during the match and San Mamés will remain lit in purple from one hour before the match, sharing that colour with the usual scenes that shine on the front of the pitch in the run-up to each match, until minutes after the referee has signalled the end of the match.

Authorities in the box

The list of guests to the San Mamés box also has a strong link with this day of protest that was first held at the end of February 110 years ago in New York and that the UN went on to institutionalize in the current date in 1975. Maria Guijarro, director of equality of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia will attend along with the deputy of the branch, Teresa Laespada.

José Miguel Aizpuru and Joseba Agirre members of the Association of Ex-players of the Club will also witness the match from the box . The SD Amorebieta and Dosa Salesianos will be the representatives of our agreed teams. As for the official clubs, representatives of the following will attend: Txaperolo Athletic Taldea, Futbolística Uriarte, Txopo Sanbi, Txorigaldu La Casilla, Ur Gorri, Athletic Club de Yéchar, La Bota del Athletic and Argoitia de Almansa.
