Awarding of the gold insignias to the members from 1968

The awarding of gold badges to members who have completed their Golden Anniversary at the Athletic Club is a recognition that year after year maintains its hallmarks and has become one of the main milestones of the extensive social program of the Club.

The president, Aitor Elizegi, accompanied by several members of his Board of Directors, has led the act and has had a few words of gratitude for all those present in the north room of the central ring of San Mamés. Accompanied by their families, the 180 members cited for the tribute have been able to enjoy a simple and exciting act, which has reminded to more than one the aroma of the great days of football that have been lived between the old and the new field.

With the presence of Carlos Gurpegi and above all José Ángel Iribar or Jose Mari Argoitia, direct protagonists of what was lived then, many of the events that took place between the end of the 67-68 season and the beginning of the 68-69 season could have been remembered and reviewed. Even complicated moments that fortunately ended with the achievement of the Cup against Elche. The twenty-second title obtained in the competition of KO, looked in the room as the protagonist of an indelible time. Not in vain, that title was the first after more than a decade without triumphs, a time of drought then unknown in our history and that a goal of Anton Arieta erased with the stroke of a pen.
