The legendary Scottish ex-footballer and ex-selection coach, Gordon Strachan (1957), has visited the Lezama facilities to gather information on the functioning of our youth academy. His idea is to get to know the most reputable training schools for players in Europe and to draw conclusions that can help him in his projects, including those of the Strachan Football Foundation.

The Club has taken the opportunity to interview him and give him a red-and-white shirt with his name as a souvenir. During the interview, the Scottish said about Athletic’s way of competing that “it’s a philosophy that I think many people around the world are jealous of”, and added: “I admire this philosophy very much”.

Gordon Strachan played 50 matches for the Scottish national team, taking part in the 1982 World Cup in Spain and 1986 World Cup in Mexico, and was voted the best player of the year in Scotland in 1980 and the best player in the United Kingdom in 1991. He played for Aberdeen, Manchester United and Leeds United.
