Due to the XVLII International Congress of Athletic Club Peñas, which will be held in Baiona on 26, 27 and 28 April, Athletic Club Museoa, in collaboration with the organizer Iparraldeko Peña, will present the exhibition “Gu gara Athletic Club (We are Athletic Club)” at the Musee Basque – Basque Museum of Baiona.

The aim of this exhibition is to present some of the fundamental aspects of the idiosyncrasy of the Athletic Club, showing that it is a 121-year-old entity faithful to tradition, committed to its land and that it adapts to the challenges brought by modern football in the 21st century.

There are multiple points of view from which we can approach the Athletic. Bearing in mind the context in which this exhibition takes place, the International Congress of Peñas, and where it is presented, the Basque Museum of Baiona, the four axes of the exhibition will be history, quarry (with a special look at Iparralde), social commitment (exemplified in Euskera) and adaptation to new times.

Through texts, photographs, videos and emblematic pieces, these fundamental pillars of the idiosyncrasy of the Athletic Club are presented, those that make this entity one of the most representative and unique in Basque Country. For this reason, in addition to football, there will also be a focus on the new San Mamés and on that Athletic that does no play on the playing fields, which is so important due to its social dimension.

Among the original objects, there are photographs, such as Athletic’s first autograph image (of its first international match, played in Bordeaux in 1903), equipment of outstanding names of Athletic’s history (from the Argoitia camisole of the 1969 final, the boots of Williams or Blasco -4 League titles and 4 Cup-, up to the gloves that Tirapu used in the historic Cup match in San Mamés against Atlético) balls, posters, trophies… and a real size photograph of José Ángel Iribar, obligatory selfie point.
