Since they faced each other for the first time in the 1924 Cup qualifiers, with this afternoon’s fixture, Athletic and Celta have played each other in 122 official matches: 16 of Copa and 106 of Liga.

In both competitions, RC Celta has been the first visitor to the current San Mamés, both in Liga and in Copa.
The Galician team was Athletic’s first rival in the historic duel of Monday September 16th, 2013 (Athletic Club 3 – RC Celta 2) and also, the inaugural rival in Copa, in the match played on December 19th of the same year (Athletic Club 4 – RC Celta 0).
Today in the presidential box, you will be able to see souvenirs of these two historic matches belonging to the collection of the Athletic Club Museoa.
The jersey and boots of Charles, Celta player who has the honour of being the first scorer on the field, and a ball used in the Copa match signed by Iker Muniain, first scorer of the tournament in this new San Mamés.
