In a particularly delicate year in its first third, the members and followers of Athletic Club have reacted to go hand in hand with the team. When the situation was very frustrating and disappointing, and possibly because of that, the public of San Mamés knew that their support was more necessary than ever. The comeback and the pull that the lions have given especially as locals throughout 2019 can only be explained by the performance of the players and communion with the stands.

A total of 772,426 spectators have attended San Mamés this season. An amount that allows to recover the 40,000 people on average per game, numbers that had not been obtained in recent campaigns. For example, the average attendance last season was 37,356 spectators.

In the matches against Barcelona, Real Madrid or Real Sociedad, there were more than 45,000 spectators. It also surpassed the list of 40,000 attendees in the matches against Valladolid, Sevilla, Betis, Eibar, Alavés or Celta and was very close to reaching that figure the days against Villarreal, Valencia, Getafe or Atletico de Madrid.

Curiously enough, the match against Girona was the one with the fewest number of attendees in San Mamés. A Monday after the December break, barely exceeded the 34,000 people on the field for a game that, with more than three points in play at that time, was very disputed from the first minute to the last in the first match of the League in which Gaizka Garitano sat on the bench.
