Iñaki Etxebarria will lead the Digital Business and Innovation area

Athletic Club launches the area of Innovation and Digital Business, an structural challenge of the board of directors headed by Aitor Elizegi, with the aim of putting new technologies at the service of members and followers by deepening the modernization of the entity. Iñaki Etxebarria Lekanda (Bilbao, 1968), general manager of BilbaoTIK, the technological centre of Bilbao City Council, has been chosen to lead it.

He is an Industrial Engineer from the Iowa State University (USA), he studied a Masters Degree at the Department of Thermotechnics of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and an MBA by the School of Engineering of Bilbao (UPV/EHU). After a first professional stage combining the family business with entrepreneurship in different fields, he was appointed responsible for BilbaoTIK, evolving the telecommunications infrastructure (including the free broadband service ‘Bilbao Wifi’), the Smart Bilbao city council project and developing technological solutions for different areas and municipal entities.

Etxebarria is a person deeply rooted to Athletic Club, team of which he has been a member for almost four decades, and he has participated as a delegate in the most golden stage of the women’s team (2002-2005), in which three consecutive league titles were won.
