The Peña de Barbolla pays tribute to our women’s team

Barbolla is one of those magical places that help us to understand why Athletic fans are born and graze where they want.

Barbolla is one of those magical places that help us to understand why Athletic fans are born and graze where they want. Barbolla is a small town in Segovia, located very close to the road to Madrid at the height of Boceguillas, which has a great Athletic Club fan group. And great is no exaggeration. Its mayor Basilio del Olmo tells it clearly: there were 4 or 5 Athletic followers who began to organize among themselves and with time a group of about 70 members was formed in a village that in winter barely has 120 inhabitants. Obviously, the mayor is also a member of the fan club.

June is the month they celebrate their anniversary. By the hand of its president Juan Estebaranz, with each birthday it is also time to organize a small recognition. In this case it was up to the women’s team to be present at the XVI anniversary, where it came with a mythical name, Eli Ibarra.

And so, between flights of storks towards the bell tower of the village church and the comings and goings of the majestic and indispensable red-and-white zone of the fan club, a festive day passed. Friends from the neighbouring Peña de Sepúlveda came and, moreover, there was people who also came from Bilbao and its surroundings. A good day where Barbolla has doubled and tripled its census and reminds us that there is a piece of Athletic one step away from the Segovian National I.
