San Mamés renews its accreditation as the stadium with the best health security in Europe

Athletic Club and IMQ have announced the renewal of the UNE 179.003 certification associated with Patient Safety.

Athletic Club and IMQ have announced the renewal of the UNE 179.003 certification associated with Patient Safety, which in 2017 made San Mamés the first football stadium in Europe to have its health safety certified. This title is not only valid today, but it is still unique in Europe.

The San Mamés healthcare team has 12 healthcare professionals in each match – 4 doctors and 8 nurses – as well as 1 operations manager and more than 75 medical students distributed among the central nursing, UEFA nursing, 7 peripheral nurses and the football field itself. In each match there are also 3 ambulances, one of which is an ICU (Advanced Life Support VAS).

The achievement of the important achievement of this accreditation and the recent renewal has been the result of the effort made since 2016 by the San Mamés Stadium Healthcare Security Commission, a commission made up of an anaesthetist, an intensivist, two university graduates in nursing, a coordinator, a Quality technician and an IMQ Group Quality Manager.

The aforementioned Commission has applied the AMFE (Modal Analysis of Failures and Effects) methodology in the entire care circuit both for obtaining and for renewing UNE 179.003: from the surveillance of the bleachers to a potential ambulance transfer, including possible cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres or suturing.

Coordinated by this Commission, a great deal of organisational, technical and training work has been carried out which has finally produced the expected results, making San Mamés a European reference point for health safety and IMQ the indispensable ally to achieve this.
