Champions of the Carranza!!!!

Athletic Club ladies’ team defeated Tottenham Hotspur in the penalty shootout in the final of the 65th Ramon de Carranza Trophy against Tottenham Hotspur. The red-and-white team won the first edition of the tournament played by women in the mythical summer tournament, one of the longest in the history of state football.

The English squad took the lead in the 12th minute in a quick transition. Neville put Addison in the lead and Addison was able to define to put her team on the scoreboard. Athletic couldn’t get comfortable on the pitch. The London team made its physical power worthwhile and Villacampa’s went at a disadvantage at half-time.

Already in the second half, the Athletic managed to dominate his rival little by little. A shot from Nekane went off course and soon after, Moraza centered a good ball that he could not find a striker. Erika, who disputed his first minutes of the preseason, threw in the 80′ a free-kick without luck.

In the final stages of the match, he could sentence with the London team 2-0 but first De La Nava and then the post, avoided it. Erika would try again with a shot from outside the area. Already in injury time, the midfielder shot and the refusal of Morgan was used by Lucia García to put in extremis the equaliser on the scoreboard (1-1). In the penalty shootout, after seven for each side, the lionesses ended up making history by bringing to Bilbao the first female Carranza in the 65-year history of the competition.
