Great atmosphere in San Mamés’ main box

Nobody wanted to miss LaLiga’s opening in San Mamés on the eve of the start of Aste Nagusia.

Only one day before the start of the Aste Nagusia, Athletic Club gave its particular starting signal by hosting the first day of the 19/20 League. The city overcrowded and San Mames hanging the sign of no tickets.

In the main box many familiar faces and of course a nurtured presence of Culé ex-players. One of them was the mythical Alexanko who posed next to Iribar, ex-partner and rival, with some objects exhibited today in the box. A living history of a century-old rivalry. Identical experiences from another decade were shared by Roenald Koeman, former FC Barcelona player and current Netherlands coach, and Rafa Alkorta, Athletic Club’s sports director.

Another guest was Robert Moreno, the Spanish national coach, who greeted Aitor Elizegi and Josep Maria Bartomeu, presidents of both clubs. The mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, did not miss the appointment. Neither did the general deputy of Bizkaia, Unai Rementeria or the writer from Ondarroa Kirmen Uribe, who recently arrived home after finishing his upcoming novel in New York.
