The Athletic Club ladies’ team has not been able to conquer what would have been their eighth Euskal Herria Kopa. The red-and-white team lost against Real Sociedad by three goals to none in the final of the competition, held in Azpeitia, in which the Guipuzcoa women have been more effective in front of goal.
The first minutes of the match went by without chances before the first great goal option in the 11th minute, with a header from Lucía García to the centre of Eunate.
The equality in the scoreboard was broken in the 30th minute thanks to a set piece perfectly executed by Itxaso and finished off in the second post by Maddi. The Athletic tried to recover without success, but in a play practically identical to the first, the second of the txuri urdin arrived, this time with Nahikari as goalkeeper.
Despite the changes of the red-and-white team in the interval, the picture did not change in the second half and soon came the 3-0 with a shot from midway Leire Baños that ended the match. A pair of breaks of Lucía García and a good foul shot by Erika Vázquez were the options of Athletic Club to cut distances on the scoreboard in a game in which the lionesses had to face the last 15 minutes in inferiority by the expulsion of Gimbert.
