The great beginning of Athletic Club in the league is confirmed by the statistics that place the beginning of Gaizka Garitano’s team among the most outstanding in the red-and-white history. With just one conceded goal in the first four rounds of LaLiga Santander, the team equals its best record (temp. 2017-18) in this century in the defensive plane. It is necessary to go back more than 30 years (League 1988-89) to find a similar data. Only the current leader of the competition, Sevilla FC, equals Athletic in this statistic with a single conceded goal in these first four rounds.
Athletic Club is also one of the only four teams in this league that still doesn’t know defeat so far in the competition, which is also one of the best initial records of the lions in domestic competition. If Garitano’s pupils manage to maintain their unbeaten streak next Sunday against Deportivo Alavés would make their best league start without knowing defeat (in 2009-10 and in the campaign 2013-14 the streak was broken in the fifth match).
