From the Museum to the Box: Deportivo Alavés

The club shows the Basque-Navarre Trophy. Golden Jubilee of Deportivo Alavés won by the lions in 1974

As part of the visit of Deportivo Alavés, the club transfers from the Athletic Museum collection to the San Mamés Honorary Box a commemorative object of the historical confrontations against this club. In this case it is the Basque-Navarre Trophy. Golden Jubilee of the Deportivo Alavés, a tournament organised by the entity, presided at that time by Juan Arregui, to celebrate its Golden Jubilee in 1974.

Although Deportivo Alavés was set up in 1921, it was not until 1974, when the club was promoted to the Second Division, that it held a tournament to celebrate its Golden Jubilee. This tournament had the participation of the four teams from the capitals of the South Basque Country: Athletic Club, Real Sociedad, Deportivo Alavés and CA Osasuna.

Athletic Club won the trophy after winning in the semi-finals against Real Sociedad by 2 to 1, and in the final against Alavés by the same result, which served for the team led by Rafa Iriondo to close that preseason with very good feelings.
