San Mamés ‘lit the hopes’

The stadium lit up with golden light as an expression of solidarity in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month promoted by ASPANOVAS

San Mamés Stadium lit up with golden light last Friday, as a gesture of solidarity with the
initiative ‘Enciende por la Esperanza’ – ‘Light for Hope’ – promoted by ASPANOVAS (Association of Parents of Children with Cancer in Biscay) in collaboration with different Basque organizations.

It was a symbolic act performed to raise awareness and make the problem of children and
young people with cancer visible.

Since 1997, a gold ribbon is the symbol used to support young patients with cancer all over the world. The color gold stands for hope and praises their outstanding courage in their fight
against cancer. This commonly shared symbol has made it possible to shape a global image of the problem, strengthening both its visibility and social impact.
