Villacampa: “It is not just another game”

“It is not just another game; we have been living it for a week and a half. It is a rivalry between two historic teams and the winner will be stronger.” Athletic Club ladies’ team coach Angel Villacampa has acknowledged that the derby against Real Sociedad (Reale Arena, 4.00 pm) on Sunday will be special: “It is not a match in which only three points are played.”

Regarding the team from Guipuzcoa, he pointed out that they are “very well retreated” and that their four players from above “make the difference.” The coach has also confirmed that he will not be able to count on Erika, Yulema or Lucía for the derby, while Nekane is still “among the cotton.” In that sense, he believes that it is time for other players such as Maite, Damaris or Moraza, “who have been here for some time despite their youth, to take the baton and the responsibility.”

As for the bad dynamics of the last few days, Villacampa believes that “we shouldn’t be so pessimistic about situations during the match; we have to accept adversities and think that they can be reversed. We have emphasized in these two weeks to repeat that together we are stronger. This is a game where it doesn’t count where the teams are in the classification.”
