The lionesses aim to put an end to Real Sociedad’s invincibility

Athletic Club Women’s team faces the challenge of defeating a still-unbeaten rival this campaign, on Sunday (4 p.m.)

Athletic Club Women’s team is facing a major challenge at a an equally challenging venue. On Sunday, kick-off time 4.00 p.m., Reale Arena will host the derby between Real Sociedad and the red-and-white team on matchday 5 in the Primera Iberdrola. Gonzalo Arconada’s side have started strongly in the domestic competition, with two victories and two draws, and they are currently sitting fifth in the table.

It is clear that obtaining the Copa de la Reina (Queen’s Cup) title last season has given Real Sociedad’s players wings. They already beat 3-0 Athletic in the Euskal Herria Kopa final in Azpeitia last August. The team from Donosti have had several injuries but they have known how to reinforce their team with the incorporation of Barbara Latorre, Ana Tejada, Carla Bautista (Atlético Madrid’s player on loan since last year), Lucía Rodríguez and Claudia Blanco. Mariasun Quiñones and Nahikari García -international goalkeeper and forward respectively- are fully recovered from their injuries and will be available to play one of the greatest Basque football contests.
