“Our team wants to be remembered”

Ángel Villacampa shows his ambition on the eve of their flight to Tenerife, where their 8th match of the the Primera Iberdrola will take place on Sunday

Athletic Club Women’s team manager Ángel Villagampa has talked to the media at Lezama before tomorrow’s trip to play against UDG Tenerife in Granadilla de Abona on Sunday. “We are ready to make noise, we don’t want to go unnoticed, our team want to be remembered, to achieve something important. In order to do that, we need to do our best in all aspects, beyond the standings. Ambition is a must, we try to instill it into our players every day. With the players in full bloom we can deal with any side. We are growing, the team have nothing to do with the team in the 1st or 4th matches, but we want more, we wish to forge an even more competitive identity.”

As for the match in La Palmera Stadium, Villacampa has expressed his confidence to be able to “break down the stats at their stadium. They aren’t our most favourable opponents, but stats are there to be broken.” Villacampa has considered the pitch dimensions (90×55), “another handicap we will have to overcome quickly: there will be less space, more duels, a higher agglomeration and more loose ball plays.”

He has also talked about his own squad: “The team is feeling better and better, some players are coming back from injury, but neither Neka nor Erika nor Vanesa are ready to play.” The latter being left out “due to the muscular pain she’s had this week, we have preferred to let her rest for a future match since she isn’t one hundred percent fit yet.”

18 players have been selected to be part of the travelling squad: Ainhoa Tirapu, Andrea Sierra, Ainhoa Moraza, Garazi Murua, Ainhoa Álvarez, Damaris Egurrola, María Díaz, Yulema Corres, Maite Oroz, Eunate Arraiza, Marta Unzué, Lucía García, Marta Perea, Leia Zarate, Andrea de la Nava, Ane Azkona, Oihane Hernández and Oihane Valdezate.
