CF Intercity, first cup opponents
Athletic Club will face the team from Alicante in the first stage of the competition, which consists of single-leg matches
The Copa del Rey first knockout draw has been held at Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, where Athletic Club has been paired against CF Intercity. The fixture will take place on either December 17, 18, or 19 in Alicante. CF Intercity are a club based in the municipality of Sant Joan that play in the Third Division Group IV, category to which they got promoted last season. Currently, they are sitting second behind CD Alcoyano, the only side ahead of them in the standings.
This year, the Copa del Rey has changed its format; as a novelty, all the knockout fixtures until the semi-finals will be single-leg matches, played in the field of the lower category team. The 55 clubs who come out winners during this first stage, together with the team exempted from it, will enter the second stage draw, which will be held on December 20, and will decide the pairings for the fixtures to be played on January 11 and 12.
