San Mames lit up in yellow, supporting Spina Bifida

Athletic Club joins the cause and supports the World Spina Bifida Day to inform and raise awareness about this serious disability

Spina Bifida is a birth defect that takes place during pregnancy since the fetus does not fully develops the spinal cord, and thus the back cannot close properly, babies suffering from Spina bifida develop different functional impairments affecting the locomotive system, nervous system, urinary tract and reproductive system. It is also common for them to suffer from hydrocephalus, which makes its cranium expand and get bigger than usual.

Experts recommend women of childbearing age to take folic acid daily supplements before and during the pregnancy.

Spina Bifida is the second largest cause of child disabilities after cerebral paralysis. Hence, Athletic Club joined the cause and lit up San Mames in yellow. An initiative whose aim is to support the youngest patients, their parents and professionals in charge of their care.
