A decade for our Youth Academy

A report by the CIES Football Observatory positions Athletic as the First Division Club, from the 5 major leagues, whose players from the youth academy have played a majority of league minutes since 2010

The renown CIES Football Observatory published in their November Issue (no. 50) a full report on the squads of the 42 clubs who have played in the 5 major European leagues in all seasons since 2010.

The Swiss analysis places Athletic club in an important first position inside the category related to the club-trained footballers who play in the top division. The red-and-white club leads this particular ranking, given that the players from its youth academy (as defined by the UEFA: those who have played for at least three seasons at ages between 15 and 21) have played 61.3% of the total domestic league minutes since 1st January 2010.

Following them on the list, FC Barcelona, have fourteen percentage points fewer (46.3%) in number of minutes played, in a classification where no other team from LaLiga appears among the top ten.
