Athletic’s manager regretted the bad start for the Lions and admitted that, after the starting 3-0, ending up with this result is “the lesser evil”
“We didn’t pressure them properly and may have lacked intensity. All this, together with their quality, has made us not do well in the first 25 minutes.” Gaizka Garitano talked to the media after the contest between Real Betis and Athletic Club, corresponding to the 16th matchweek in LaLiga Santander. The red-and-white boss admitted that after being losing 3-0 at the beginning of the game, ending up with this result is “the lesser evil”.
On the other hand, Athletic’s coach regretted the lack of stability that the team showed in the initial minutes of the game: “If you don’t defend faultlessly, you pay for it; and today we have not performed as well as we usually do. Three chances they had, three goals they scored. Getting back into the game after a 3-0 isn’t easy. We lost the game in the first 25 minutes.”
The manager from Derio also gave his view on the possible solutions proposed after the interval: “When we faced our systems in the second half, our intention was to get a better balance and more confidence, to cause damage by making the center backs move to the wings, widening the field. We must correct the mistakes we made at the beginning and move forward. The team is working well.”
