Goiko ‘5’: Corazón de león

Around 200 people attended last afternoon in San Mamés the presentation of the biography of Andoni Goikoetxea, “Goiko ‘5’: Corazón de león“, a book written by Carmelo Rodrigo. The journalist Juanjo Baños, accompanied on stage by Goiko and other prominent personalities including the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto and the former president, José Julián Lertxundi, have praised the name of the legendary lion of Alonsotegi and recalled some of the most memorable episodes of his sports and human career. “Goiko is one of the most charismatic characters Athletic has provided”, said the writer Carmelo Rodrigo. “Unrepeatable”, “We”, “Claw”, “Faithful”, “Father”, “Leonazo”, “Persistent” and “Athletic” were the words that the guests used to define Goikoetxea. 

The president of the Athletic Club Foundation, Juan Carlos Ercoreca; the directors Fernando San José, Itziar Villamandos, Goyo Arbizu and Tomás Ondarra; Jon Vázquez Eguskiza, general director of the Foundation, attended the presentation; as well as a good number of ex-central team-mates and former red and white footballers, including Iribar, Argoitia, Irureta, Sarabia, Urkiaga, Elgezabal, Bolaños, Corino and Eli Ibarra, among others.

 The book is a compendium of experiences, opinions, anecdotes and photographs. In short, a reliable portrait of Andoni Goikoetxea. It will be available in any official shop of the Club and online too. It will be available in other establishments as well. Part of the income proceeds will be donated to the Bizitegi association.
