Five of the best goals of 2019

We record five of the best goals of the first men’s team in 2019

For some, the goals that Athletic Club has scored throughout this calendar year will remain in their memories. Without taking into account any of them in particular, and without counting all of those that we will have left out of the list, we have chosen five goals that the first men’s team scored in 2019 for all that they meant or for their beauty:

1- Iñaki Williams (Athletic Club 2-0 Sevilla FC, 2018/19, Matchday 19)

Athletic Club arrived to San Mamés having fallen in the King’s Cup against the same rival three days before. However, far from being intimidated, Gaizka Garitano’s team was able to face Sevilla and to achieve the three points. A win that came thanks to goals from Iñaki Williams, the last one after a gallop from his own half to finish feinting Vaclik in the 84th minute of the match.

2- Beñat Etxebarria (Athletic Club 1-1 Deportivo Alavés, 2018/19, Matchday 35)

Scoring in a Basque derby is always special and Beñat will not forget this goal in particular. The player from Igorre opened the scoreboard with a brilliant free kick that fitted Pacheco’s upper corner in the 42nd minute of the first half.

3- Aritz Aduriz (Athletic Club 1-0 FC Barcelona, 2019/20, Matchday 1)

The fox chose a perfect moment to score the first goal of the current Lions campaign: In San Mamés, in front of Barça, in the final minutes, first ball that touched in the match and by a scissor kick. The rest is part of history. A goal that allowed Athletic to start this season on the right foot.

4- Iker Muniain (Athletic Club 3-0 RCD Espanyol, 2019/20, Matchday 11)

The red-and-white number 10 scored a double in 16 minutes against the Catalan team. In the second of the two goals, our captain, with his right leg, hit the ball violently, sending it into Diego Lopez’s goal. The goalkeeper could do nothing and Athletic achieved three points.

5- Ander Capa (Athletic Club 2-1 Levante UD, 2019/20, Matchday 13)

The Lions ended the first half-time losing and in the second half they came out convinced that a comeback was possible. Muniain got the draw and when the match was coming to an end, Capa hit a right shot from outside the area to complete the comeback.
