“To play in San Mamés is a privilege”

Ángel Villacampa reviews his first half year in Bilbao a few days before leading his first game in The Cathedral

Last May it became official. Ángel Villacampa was chosen to take command of the first ladies’ team. The coach not think twice about it and went to Bilbao to start training Athletic Club. The coach from Toledo soon felt integrated in his new city, (although he preferred to live in Lezama), and he enjoys his new environment, especially the food as he assures that he has gained a few extra kilos. He is even beginning to learn the Basque language.

The red-and-white coach will have the opportunity to lead his first match in San Mamés on January 5 (12.00 pm) in a match against FC Barcelona, from which he hopes that “all the red-and-white supporters can feel proud of the team and their behaviour at the level of the club.”

“Villa” has walked around the estuary of Bilbao a few days before the match and has confessed that he feels privileged to be able to defend the colours of Athletic Club. “Being able to be part of a club like this, with such a unique philosophy and with such deeply rooted principles really makes me feel privileged.
