Sierra rescues a point at the last moment

A goal on 94 minutes against Levante rewards the team for a great job done, especially after bringing out the best version of themselves in the second half

The second part of the season has begun and Athletic club have managed to draw 1-1 in a very complicated clash against third-placed Levante UD. A hard-fought point for Ángel Villacampa’s side, who showed their capability to get back into the game. Levante UD showed superiority over the Lionesses in the early stages of the game. Rocío gave the first warning and, on 13 minutes, a venomous cross from Marta Corredera gave the visitors the lead at Lezama.

María Pry’s players gained confidence and brought danger to Andrea De la Nava’s goal with quick transitions. Maite Oroz had the Red and Whites’ best opportunity of the first half with a powerful shot from outside the box that slammed the woodwork, a play which was immediately replicated by Zornoza.

In the second half, Athletic Club increased the intensity and Lucía García had a fine chance in her first breakaway on the right wing. The Red and Whites caused problems for the team from Levante with their pressing. Villacampa’s side had taken control of the game, knowing how to neutralize their opponents and patiently confining María Pry’s players in their own half of the field.

In the dying minutes, the Red and Whites tried to score with all their might and all players were in the hunt for the equalizer. When injury time was coming to an end, Maite Oroz took a corner-kick and Andrea Sierra, who had come up in a last attempt to score, met the clearance with a thundering shot that got into Paulata’s net, rescuing a good point at Lezama. A well-deserved result that sets a good example of how hard efforts bear fruit.
