“We’ve been far superior”

Gaizka Garitano regrets the “inability to finish off chances in the last few metres” after the 1-1 draw with RC Celta

A “far superior” Athletic Club, in the words of Gaizka Garitano, could not be able to get more than a draw against RC Celta de Vigo in the 20th matchweek of LaLiga Santander held at San Mamés. As the red-and-white manager has pointed out in the press conference given after the match, “we’ve done a very complete game; we’re a little upset: we didn’t move the ball very well, we played well on the inside, with chances, we did everything we had to do to win. When you have such a control of the game, ‘you have to kill’.” However, Garitano prefers to look at the positive side of the point obtained: “The team is fine and they instil confidence, that makes us be always closer to winning than losing.”

When asked about one of the main protagonists of the evening, Iker Muniain, who was back into the starting line-up and played his 400th official match with Athletic Club’s first team, Garitano has seen him “well”. “He was tired at the end, but despite that, he’s a player that can do something different at any given time.”

Already focused on their next appointment -the clash corresponding to the sixteen finals of the Copa del Rey in Elche on Wednesday-, when he was asked about the possible squad rotation for that fixture, Garitano admitted that “we’ll have to make some changes, because the following match is to be played at one on Sunday.”
