The three fastest goals of last months

Ane Azkona’s goal last Sunday, which kicked off Athletic Club’s win over Deportivo Abanca, was one of the fastest in the history of the red-and-white first women’s team. The striker scored after 9 seconds of play taking advantage of the ball combed by Oguiza after a long pass from Oroz to beat Sullastres on her exit.

Azkona’s goal joined two others scored in the last seventeen months in the first seconds of the matches. Last season, in the third matchday of league, Yulema Corres scored after 11 seconds in Lezama against Atletico Madrid. The red-and-white player took advantage of a move almost identical to Azkona’s goal to beat the goalkeeper, Lola Gallardo. And last March it was Lucía García who scored – against EDF Logroño – after 40 seconds of play after a cross by Nekane.

In the last decade, only Nekane (2011-12), Manu Lareo (2010-11) and Erika Vázquez (2017-18) were able to score before the first minute of play.
