“We take the game as a final”

Ángel Villacampa expresses his excitement for a competition that “generates hope in all the teams and even more being a single match”

The coach of Athletic Club, Ángel Villacampa, has appeared this afternoon in Lezama in the previous match of the round of sixteen of Copa de la Reina (Queen’s Cup) that the red-and-white team will play against UDG Tenerife tomorrow, Tuesday, at 7.00pm: “We were really looking forward to the Copa de la Reina. It is a competition that everyone is excited about and even more, being a single match“.

Villacampa believes that “we have the slight advantage of playing at home, with our supporters. We will face the match as what it is: a final, because otherwise there will be no other. I am lucky enough to have a Copa de la Reina title as a coach and now the aim is to achieve important things for this club. Now the format has changed: it is more complicated, more matches are played, it is played during the week… but it is still special, and even more when it is a single match.” The cup atmosphere prevails at the club and the coach reminds us that what happened with the first men’s team also has a positive influence on the lionesses. “I hope we can also go through the rounds and get as far as possible in the Copa.

Regarding the UD Granadilla, Villacampa believes that the Tenerife team has a very recognisable playing style and that they will have a difficult match in Lezama: “Certainly at home they are stronger than outside, but they have improved throughout the days. It is a team that comes together well and goes well against. I know it will be hard for us to win, but we have to find a few minutes to enjoy ourselves and even connect with the supporters.
