The match is unprecedented in the Copa de la Reina and the team from Rioja will face Athletic Club at Las Gaunas on March 17 or 18 in order to win a place in the grand final
EDF Logroño will be the rival of Athletic Club in the semi-finals of Copa de la Reina (Queen’s Cup). Las Gaunas stadium will host on March 17 or 18 the match that will decide one of the finalists for the title at La Rosalera, Málaga, the next May 31. The other one will come from the match between FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC.
It will be an unprecedented match in the competition between the teams from Logroño and Bilbao. This league season, Ángel Villacampas’ squad managed to win 3 to 0 against the ones led by Gerardo García (former player of Villarreal, Valencia, Real Sociedad…) in a match played in Lezama, corresponding to the 11th matchday of Primera Iberdrola.
The last season’s precedent is favorable for Athletic, which won its two matches: 1-3 at Las Gaunas and 4-3 at Lezama, in a frenetic game with a hat-trick of Lucía García. EDF Logroño was promoted to First Division in 2018, curiously, winning the promotion place of CD Tacón, rival of the red-and-whites in the quarterfinals, that won the next year.
The striker Jade is their top scorer in league with 11 goals and her goal last Wednesday gave her team a historic place in the semi-finals of the Copa tournament after beating Real Betis 1-0 in Las Gaunas.
