The final of the Copa del Rey (King’s Cup), initially scheduled for April 18 in Seville, has been postponed by mutual agreement between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad “to ensure that it will be played with public in the stands.” The decision has been taken today in Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas at a meeting with the presidents of both clubs, Aitor Elizegi and Jokin Aperribay, and the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales.
“We need our supporters to breathe,” -emphasised Aitor Elizegi-. “That, and their health, is what we have to put forward. And of course, the teams we represent. It is essential to collaborate with the situation we are living.”
The president of Real Sociedad also reiterated the measure: “The first thing is public health and to guarantee our fans how they will participate, because they are the key piece in this final.” For the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, “the goal is to have La Cartuja overflowing.”
