‘Slow-cooked’ goals

‘Slow-cooked’ goals

Let’s have a look at the three goals our team has scored involving the highest number of passes in the last decade in LaLiga

Athletic Club have scored all kind of goals during the last ten seasons in LaLiga and we would like to rescue the ranking of the most elaborate ones, those which involved the most passes before the ball ended up in the net.

The first one is quite recent. On 30th August 2019, in the derby against Real Sociedad corresponding to the 3rd matchweek this season, at San Mamés, Raúl García netted the final 2-0 on 28 minutes. Before his splendid left-footed chip shot, 19 passes were strung together.

The second position in the ranking belongs to Aduriz. After Iraola’s pass, the forward scored an early goal with a header inside the area against Granada CF on 6 minutes after 18 consecutive passes. It happened in the 26th matchweek of the 2013/14 season, at San Mamés, in a fixture that ended 4-0, thanks to a hat-trick scored by the player from Donostia and a goal from Gurpegui.

The last place on the podium is occupied by a goal that was preceded by 16 passes during the same season as Aduriz’s goal mentioned before. Beñat was the scorer, also at La Catedral, on16 September 2013, in new San Mamés’ inaugural match against RC Celta de Vigo. After an assist from San José, the midfielder scored the 3-1 goal on 68 minutes, being 3-2 the final result of the game.
