The earliest debutants of the current squad

Unai Vencedor and Oihan Sancet celebrate their second and fifth month, respectively, since their debut in the first team’s official match. The player from Rekalde made his debut last February 16 at the age of 19 years, 3 months and 1 day against CA Osasuna at San Mamés in a match in which he was a starting line-up player. Meanwhile, Sancet did it on the opening day of LaLiga against FC Barcelona (August 16) at San Mamés substituting Óscar de Marcos. Apart from Vencedor and Sancet, four other lions –Muniain, Unai López, Villalibre and Beñat– made their debut with the first team under the age of 20.

Muniain made his debut on July 30, 2009, in European competition. He did it against Young Boys and entered in the 59th minute substituting Toquero. A month later, on August 6, he scored the winning goal in the second leg against Young Boys, just two minutes after substituting Susaeta. The current captain is the youngest player in the history of the club (16 years, 7 months and 11 days) to make his debut with the first team in an official match.

Muniain is followed in the list by Unai López. The midfielder jumped to the San Mamés field for the first time in the second leg of the previous round of the Champions League against Napoli, with 18 years, 9 months and 25 days, and playing 18 minutes. The day of the debut at San Mamés was also Unai’s debut as a lion.

Joining the 19 years of Sancet and Vencedor appear two more players. The first one is Asier Villalibre, who made his debut with the first team led by Ernesto Valverde against SD Eibar at San Mamés (he played 6 minutes substituting Williams) in the 14th matchday of LaLiga Santander 2016-17. The second is Beñat Etxebarria, who made his debut as a lion at El Sadar in the 2006-07 season in the 8th matchday of LaLiga, playing 6 minutes.

In addition to the mentioned six, seven other lions made their debut at the age of 20: San José, De Marcos, Córdoba, Williams, Balenziaga, Núñez and Ibai Gómez.
