The goalkeeper from Portugalete returns to the red-and-white team after a successful experience in the United States and signs until 2022 with the first team
Athletic Club and Amaia Peña have reached an agreement to sign the goalkeeper until June 2022. The arrival of Amaia Peña supports the position of the historical Ainhoa Tirapu for the next season. Born on November 22, 1998, and trained at Pauldarrak de Barakaldo, she joined Athletic Club in the 2014-2015 season to play in the subsidiary. She played a total of 37 matches with the second women’s team until the 2016-2017 season when she went to the University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) to study a double degree in Marketing and Supply Chain.
In her experience in the United States she has played four seasons with the Pitt Panthers in the NCAA’s Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). In the last two seasons she has been a starter and has made significant progress. In addition, Amaia has been international with the Spain national team in the youth categories, winning the European championship in 2015 with the U-17 and the European subchampionship with the U-19.
She is a goalkeeper with a great size that allows her to dominate the air game. She is agile and has great intuition in the one-on-one. Amaia Peña is expected to be one of the present and future goalkeepers of the club.
