Ainhoa Álvarez says goodbye to football

The defensive player from Galdakao has decided to put an end to her career as a footballer and embark on a new professional adventure

Ainhoa Álvarez has decided that this will be her last season as a football player. Hence, the red-and-whiter puts an end to a career that began at Athletic Club in 2009, after moving to Lezama from La Merced. Born in Galdakao, Ainhoa made great progress from her early years with the red-and-white subsidiary team until hers debut with the first team in 2014, May 5. Juan Luis Fuentes gave her the chance when she was still a member of the second team in a match that ended up in a 2-0 victory for Athletic against Collerense in Lezama. A year after her debut, she would win the League title with Joseba Aguirre on the bench.

In her seventh season, she has defended the Club’s t-shirt in the First Division, she has played a total of 71 matches and scored two goals. She has been a player with great physical power and forcefulness in the centre of the defence. In September 2016, she tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee at Sporting Huelva on the second match day of the League season to feel like a lion again when the next season begins.

The player of Galdakao leaves the playing fields, but not the world of sport, since after having pursued a Science Degree in Physical Activity and the Sport at the UPV/EHU, she will devote herself to the teaching in Secondary School as well as Baccalaureate.

Athletic Club would like to thank Ainhoa for her dedication and commitment in defending the colours of the Club during all these years and wish her the best of luck in her personal and professional career.
