Garitano: “Every match is a final”

Athletic Club’s manager says “aiming to win the greatest team in LaLiga is a beautiful challenge”

Gaizka Garitano answered the questions sent to him by the media in the conference room at Lezama ahead of Athletic v Real Madrid tomorrow at San Mamés (Sun 2:00pm).

The manager from Derio is ready to welcome “the best team in LaLiga” at San Mamés: “They’re currently the best. Apart from having good players, their organisation on the pitch is really good. Having a chance to win the best side is a beautiful challenge.” In order to do it, the coach has planned a ‘closed’ game at San Mamés: “You can’t let them put their skills into practice. They have a really big, quality squad. We’ll try to stay strong at defence and take advantage of our chances up there. I’m optimistic that we can get a win.”

Garitano is aware of what this hectic LaLiga schedule entails: “Every match is a final. We know we have two weeks of hard work to go and we are taking a match at a time. Tomorrow’s game will be the most difficult and we’ll try to pull through it. If we do it well, we’ll be closer to playing in Europe.”
