The wheels of pre-season are set in motion for the women’s first team

Ángel Villacampa’s footballers have begun their training for a demanding pre-season campaign behind closed doors at Lezama

Today, Monday, July 20, the women’s first team have started their 2020/2021 pre-season training at Lezama. Without spectators but with the correct safety measures in place, the lionesses return back to work after their summer break, aiming to prepare themselves for a demanding campaign as well as they can. The training session was focused on the physical aspect and none of the footballers touched the ball. The session was about getting the first impressions of a side who has plenty of ambition and will play one more season in the Primera Iberdrola.

Goalkeeper Amaia Peña, who had already trained with the squad in Zamudio last June, has joined the side managed by Villacampa for this pre-season campaign, together with reserve team footballers Nerea Nevado, Naroa Uriarte, Bibiane Schulze and Mariana Cerro.

Training will be carried out at Lezama, behind closed doors if nothing changes. Double sessions (morning and evening) have been scheduled for them, while some friendlies are likely to be played in nearby towns. There will be a total of 18 teams in the Primera Iberdrola this season (two more than last year) so the fixture schedule will be more crammed than usual. Apart from that, the Red and Whites have yet to play the Copa de la Reina semi-final against EDF Logroño at Las Gaunas, and are waiting for its official date to be released.
