Demanding preseason challenge

The red-and-white team will play the first friendly match of the preseason against Atlético de Madrid, which is preparing for the quarter-finals of the Champions League

Athletic Club’s first women’s team will play its first friendly match of the preseason against Atlético de Madrid this Saturday, August 8, at 6.00pm at Lezama, behind closed doors. The players led by Ángel Villacampa will compete again more than five months later -on March 1 they played their last league match against RCD Espanyol- and they will do it against a first level European rival.

The team from Madrid began working on July 6 in Alcalá de Henares, two weeks before the lionesses, to prepare for the Women’s Champions League quarter-final against FC Barcelona at San Mamés on August 21.

The players coached by Dani González have been reinforced with the signings of Turid Knaak, Hedvig Lindahl, Alia Guagni, Merel van Dongen and Pauline Peyraud and have Grace Kazadi on loan. In addition, five players from the subsidiary are carrying out the preseason with the first team: Sonia Majarín, Alejandra Bernabe, Paula Vizoso, Leire Peña and Jana Xin. It will be a very demanding challenge for the red-and-white team, who will be looking for good sensations and the rhythm of competition after so many months of competitive inactivity.
