After announcing their first pre-season rival (Deportivo Alavés, who they play on Wednesday, September 2), Athletic Club have arranged another friendly match for their pre-season campaign, which begins next Thursday.
The lions face Unión Deportiva Logroñés on Saturday, August 29 (20:00 kick-off) at the Estadio Las Gaunas. UD Logroñes recently won promotion to the Segunda División and this will be the second fixture between the two clubs (the side from La Rioja was founded under this name in 2009). They played each other for the first time in 2010, with Athletic winning 3-0.
This will be Athletic Club’s second match in the new Las Gaunas, but it’s not their first fixture in Logroño. The Lions played a total of eleven games (nine in LaLiga and two in the Copa del Rey) in the old Las Gaunas. In ten of those fixtures Athletic played CD Logroñés, but the first time Athletic went to Las Gaunas was in 1931 and on that occasion they played against CD Logroño. In total, Athletic have a record of five wins, three draws and three defeats at Las Gaunas.
Bilbao Athletic have played UD Logroñés in six Segunda División B games over the past decade. However, during that period the reserve side didn’t have much fortune, only managing to achieve one draw.
